Signing in to Yahoo! Messenger via sms is a dream with the SMS Login Client. Just click on the SMS Login Client Icon in the main menu of your mobile.
Enter your Yahoo! ID & Password in the screen that follows and click on enter.
You are now signed in. A list of options is now available to you like List Friends, Search Friends, Message a Friend. etc...

To send an IM, just click on "Message a friend", enter the Yahoo! ID of the person you want to send the IM to the message & click on send.
